alongside Lee Haney, who
would go on to become Mr.

solidified my place in the sport.
FS: Your competitive
career was remarkable, t Bill
but you didn’t stop there. training
1988.
After retiring from
competition, you became
a respected judge in the
IFBB. What motivated you
to transition to judging?
BILL TIERNEY: Even after I
stopped competing, I wanted
to stay connected to the
sport. Judging was a natural
next step for me. I had the
experience and the eye for it,
and I wanted to help shape the
future of bodybuilding. Being
on the Executive Committee
of the English Federation of
BodyBuilders and later the
UKBFF allowed me to do just
that.
FS: You became the
President of the UKBFF in
1997 and played a key role
in organizing events. What
were some of the highlights
of your time in that role?
BILL TIERNEY: One of
the biggest highlights was
organizing the IFBB Amateur
Olympia in Liverpool in qBill at World Championships Belgium.
2015. It was a special event
because I and Wanda had the
privilege to meet John Strong.
John Strong is the grandson of
Eugene Sandow, who started
bodybuilding competitions in
the UK. Dianne Bennett, who
is one of the very first UKBFF
Executive members and the
officials were very excited that
the IFBB approved the event.
